Shefford landmarks

In our run up to the Community Festival we are celebrating the landmarks and byways of Shefford – here’s one for the professionals and the DIYers.

Where does this go?On my stroll the other day it occurred to me that there are some interesting, attractive views of the town from the houses and high street to the river walks – maybe you also walk past some of these views?

STMA fun day

I am delighted that we now have 50 plus events listed under the Shefford Community Festival umbrella – that is nearly 6 per day in the whole of Shefford and we still have ten weeks to go, giving people plenty of time to organise something new!

For example in the last few days we have included a new Craft Fair at the STMA – organised by Lesley Whiteman – who is also behind the Garage Sale Trail and the Shefford Local website.  eatfeast at the Shefford Community Festival

Following support from our sponsors this year we have been able to print a program preview which will be going out to every household in Shefford in the next few weeks so people can put a copy on their fridge and update it from a printable PDF on our website.

We offer a big welcome to Bathroom Vogue and Attitude Bikes – our latest sponsors to support the Shefford Community Festival – a big thank you and good luck in 2022.  Things are moving quickly so more information to come.

Shefford STMA pub quiz gamesI am really looking forward to our Festival in September to see the enthusiastic Shefford community get behind the program – we have some months yet – but even so that is not long to plan and execute a new activity.

As we all know life is much changed after Covid and we are still in its shadow so this year we are delighted to have so many activities – at the time of writing many organisers have already committed and I am aware of a good number of others who are in the process of putting things together. We are planning to issue a printed program in August and will constantly update the live program page on our website  at sheffordcommunityfestival.co.uk/

So if you would like to take part please do give your project some urgent thought and register it online here

Ian Deavin with the Mayor of SheffordFortunately, the weather was great last week for the annual Town Meeting where I had the opportunity to promote our Community Festival – also to look at the new playground and watch a Harris Hawk at work with his handler. Cake was also available – vIan Deavin Shefford Community Festivalery nice!

We got off to a flying start this year and it is wonderful to see the level of involvement from our Shefford community –  many businesses have stepped up to engage with activities and sponsorship – plus we have a great range of activities in the program already.

It seems like September 16th-25th is a long way off but there is much to do before then. I know that a number of groups are planning things based on previous years’ events and others are evaluating their situation in our “post Covid” era so please do keep me posted.

We are planning to have a town-wide promotion in July which means that to get into that we need your information by the end of June. You will still be able to get into the program on our website after that but we have a great leafletting drop planned and to get into that we need at least an outline of your event by June 30th.

Details can be submitted online here.

Rose's at Duck Lane

Tea, coffee and cake – or a bit of lunch in pleasant surroundings are popular pastimes for family and friends in the heart of Shefford and so we are delighted to welcome Rose’s at Duck Lane as sponsors of our festival this year. Last year the team at Rose’s created a special Festival milkshake – we look forward to seeing their creations for 2022.Rose's at Duck Lane Shefford

Shefford businesses are certainly supporting the community and we are starting to get more information about organised activities for the program itself so by the end of September there should be lots to do with friendly faces all around town – whether you want a sit-down break or your car serviced.
